Dearest Supporters

Firstly we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of Queenslandand pay our respects to the Elders of this country at this very special time of the year. Secondly, the ANTaR Qld Committee and Working Groups would like to wish you, supporters of justice and rights in this State, all a very lovely holiday season.

Some of the highlights for the organisation this year have included:

  • Holding our 2011 AGM with guest Speaker Dr Noritta Morseu Diop
  • Hosting the Time for Reflection Afternoon marking the 20th Anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody
  • Seeing one of our valued founding members win one of this year’s Griffith Australia Day Awards for her work in the community
  • Launching our new full colour brochure in May
  • Hosting the Annual Reconciliation Week Trivia Night at the Irish Club
  • Receiving the Premiers 2011 Reconciliation Award for Partnerships in Cairns alongside Project 10% partners, Murri Watch and ATSIWLAS
  • Facilitating a wonderful year of Learning More Discussion Nights in St Lucia with special guests talking about learning through books, films and discussion.
  • Seeing Project 10% launched as its own incorporated identity
  • Hosting the 5th Annual ANTaR Qld Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Award in Parliament House with this year's winners Children of the Dreaming from Ipswich
  • Sending out our two biannual hardcopy newsletters to members and supporters
  • Hosting the variety of Learning More events including Bush Tucker and Sea of Hands at Northey Street, Rights and Responsibilities of Traditional Ownership and Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in the National Curriculum
  • Hosting the National ANTaR AGM and Conference in Brisbane with Guest Speakers Senator Claire Moore and Les Malezer
  • Seeing the new Just Futures Strategy to reduce imprisonment rates for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples launched
  • Supporting the Stop Black Deaths in Custody rallies, the Stolen Wages May Day march and NAIDOC Week
  • Conducting our comprehensive supporter survey on rights, justice and respect issues in Queensland
  • Developing submissions on Constitutional Reform, the Draft Justice Strategy, the Review of the Commission for Children and Young People and the Child Guardian: Consultation Report Youth Justice System and Musgrave Cultural Centre
  • Supporting the production of the book Wundirra-Standing in the Light of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Seeing the Sea of Hands being used all over the State by so many different groups to signify support for rights and justice in Queensland.
