Congratulations to the 5th Closing the Gap Award Winners - Children of the Dreaming

ANTaR Qld congratulated Children of the Dreaming on winning this year’s AQ Close the Gap Award. This year’s winners of the ANTaR Qld Closing the Gap in Indigenous Health Award were selected and were presented with their Award at Parliament House on Tuesday 25th October 2011 at 5pm. The ceremony was co-hosted by the Hon Curtis Pitt, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Mental Health and Disability.

Closing the Gap the Girudala Way - Close the Gap Day 24th March

If things do not change an Aboriginal boy child born today has less than a 25% chance of living long enough to collect their superannuation aged 65. This in contrast to a life expectancy of over 80 years for other Australians.

Project 10% met with Education in November

Members of the Project 10% Working Group met with the Education DG and Assistant DG to talk about the social determinants of health and the impact on both closing the Gap and Reducing Imprisonment Rates. Education has contributed to the plan for a new justice strategy. ANTaR Qld would like to see outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and soon. Campaign Overview - Closing the Gap in Qld

The Close the Gap Campaign is a campaign aimed at reducing the 11 year gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and non Indigenous Australians.

Girudala another Winner!

ANTaR Qld congratulates Girudala on winning this year’s Close the Gap in Indigenous Health Award. The fourth winners of this prestigious award, Girudala’s wholistic approach to community care and program integration have been the keys to their success in delivering health care to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in which they work.

AMA demands long term support to Close the Gap

The AMA wants the next Australian Government to provide new funding of $100 million over ten years in grants to community groups or NGOs for health-related capacity building in Indigenous communities, because capacity building requires generational change and must be supported for sufficient time to make a real difference. Even the thunder clapped as John Close, Director of the Goori House Men’s Recovery Centre accepted the 3rd Annual Close the Gap in Indigenous Health Award from Premier Anna Bligh on 26 October 2009 in the Premiers Hall at Parliament House.
