ANTaR Qld and MurriWatch met with the Premier in July to talk about the over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Qld prisons and the need to focus on the promises made in the 2001 Justice Agreement.The Premier promised to prioritise the goals of the Justice Agreement and assigned Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Desley Boyle, to oversee and urgent review of where the Justice Agreement was at in Qld.
ANTaR Qld, MurriWatch and ATSIWLAS met with the Senior policy officers from the Departments of Communities and Justice and Attorney Generals in October to talk through aspects of the Reducing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Campaign. Discussion revolved around the need to refocus government attention on the goals of the 2001 Justice Agreement and strategies for getting there. The Campaign Steering Group suggested a twelve month plan by all parties to tackle issues of Government accountability, community resourcing and campaign leadership.
